Medic Oncall was started by two medical professionals – Melissa Bennett and Joseph Sgroi – profiled below.
Managing Director, Melissa Bennett
Melissa has been Managing Director of Medic Oncall since she established the company in 2001. Prior to that, she was HMO Manager – Medical Administration at The Alfred Hospital, following time at Frankston Private Rooms, the Far West Area Health Service at Broken Hill Base Hospital, and Peninsula Health Care Network at Frankston Hospital.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University, a Masters in Health Administration from the University of NSW and a Graduate Certificate Australian Migration Law from Victoria University. She is an RCSA accredited professional recruiter; Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Council Member of the Association of Medical Recruitment Australia and New Zealand (AMRANZ).
Director, Dr Joseph Sgroi MBBS DRANZCOG
A qualified medical practitioner, Joseph has been a Director of Medic Oncall since the company was established in 2001. Joseph graduated from medicine at Monash University in 1998 (MBBS). He completed his basic physician training at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. After obtaining a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRANZCOG) in 2007, Joseph commenced formal training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2008 and is due to attain his fellowship in 2014 (FRANZCOG).
Dr Sgroi has recently been appointed to The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Training and Accreditation Committee as well as the Continuing Professional Development Committee.
In addition Joseph has undertaken locum placements throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific; from Broken Hill to a resort island in Fiji.
Joseph is an Honorary Medical Advisory member of the Department of Human Services’ Big Brothers Big Sisters program; a program aimed at mentoring youth.
Since 2000 Joseph has actively represented medical practitioners to both State and Federal Governments in his roles with the Federal and State Australian Medical Association.

Joseph was instrumental in raising the public and professional profile of Safe Hours for junior doctors. The Safe Hours Policy developed by the AMA Council for Doctors in Training whilst Joseph was Chair has been fully adopted by Medic Oncall. Medic Oncall's rostering software complies with the Safe Hours Code.
